A downloadable game for Windows

Descriptions:

The Fiction Bay City is trembling as Johnson, the reigning street racing champion, announces his retirement and will relinquish his legendary car. However, the winning condition for the car is to establish a worthy reputation by beating every racing trial set up by the racing scene within a 90-day period. Anyone might become the new king of street racing.

You take on the role of Jaycee, a young racer who lives with his mother and has chosen to accept this opportunity to compete for the title of street racing king against many other racers from both inside and outside the city. Take on the prologue of his journey to become the next street racing champion!

The current build have 11 races. Try to find them all!

This release is just a proof of concept/prototype made to challenge me and my three friends to see if we can pull off an open-world racing game by ourselves with no funding while studying at our universities.

This project took roughly 4 months of on-and-off pre-production during a semester and two whole weeks of production, with a deadline of June 17, 2023.

Notes:

1. There may be some shadow glitches. This is because the computer used for this build is old, and the lightmap produced is corrupted even after a long baking session. This is a hardware issue on the development part, and we tried our best to solve it, but unfortunately, some artifacts are still visible in medium and high-quality options. This issue only happens on the road material (from EasyRoads3D Free) at a location a few meters away from the camera, and as far as we know, we couldn't find the source of the error as it didn't show up in the editor. If anyone knows how to fix it, feel free to share your suggestions.

2. This is our first time handling a large open-world map, and there is a clear lack of proper communication within the production team. This means both optimization and graphics aren't the best, and we are sorry about that.

3. We have hidden some GRDC-related Easter eggs across the map as well, so if you are a GRDC member, try finding them and posting your findings on the club's server. I'll wait ;)

4. There will be some 10-15 second freezes between the dialogue scene and the overworld scene. This is normal, and if you were to spam click the screen and get the "this application is not responding" pop-up, click wait for the program, and it'll transport you right back to the overworld scene. This is due to the long loading time of the unoptimized overworld scene (as stated above), which is beyond my current capability of game development.

5. There were supposed to be three more cars featured in the game (as you may have guessed from my Instagram posts in the past couple of months), but due to a month-long development hell that we have gone through, we could only include two out of the five. There were supposed to be more interactions, more characters, and more events, but most were canned in this build for the same reason.

6. Why submit it now if it's incomplete? Two reasons: a specified deadline for a private game jam (GRDC Annual Showcase 2022-23) and being burned out. I have personally poured so much time into the project that came out unsatisfying in the end, and that is very devastating for me, which led to me being burned out of game development. I am sure the passion will come back, but for now, I need to take a break.
